The Need for a Technology Access Fund

The Technology Access Fund for Learners was launched by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) this week. It’s a very welcome initiative delivered just when it is most needed. The past five and a bit weeks have shown more than ever that equity of access to digital devices and internet connection is essential.
For most of us learning, socialising and working online have become second nature. However, what if you don’t have a digital device at home? Or an internet connection doesn’t fit in the budget? There is a real danger we could leave those with less access to technology behind.

What is the fund for?

The fund will enable employers to fund digital devices for their employees/learners to use. This will give them the tools they need to continue workplace literacy and numeracy learning online.
It means that employers who are running a workplace literacy and numeracy programme can apply for funding. This will enable them to purchase digital devices and internet connections for their staff so they can continue learning.
