‘Matariki Kāinga Hokia – Matariki that calls you home’
Food that reminds you of home was at the heart of our Matariki shared hākari at the Upskills’ Tāmaki office. Our celebrations were in keeping with this year’s theme, Matariki Kāinga Hokia – Matariki that calls you home.
Rewana bread, hearty soup, chop suey, panipopo, koeksister, and sachima were some of the kai brought along by our kaimahi. We shared our memories of each dish as we ate.
Our Pou Tikanga, Merepaea Dunn took us through the history of Matariki. She focused on the significance of each whetu in the Matariki cluster. We began by honouring those who had passed since the last Matariki offering karakia and prayers. And ended by celebrating those to be born in the coming months.
Celebrating Matariki at Upskills was a special way to connect with each other and Te Ao Māori.
