What do 100 participants, 2,000 hours of Zoom learning and 11 cameos from pets and whānau have in common? A Lockdown Leadership experience!

Four weeks ago, Upskills launched a special Lockdown Leadership experience, with a bit of a unique approach. We thought about how to offer real value and a quality learning experience in the online space.

Something new

We decided to change our model. We took a punt on bringing our usual interactive, learner-centred training into an online environment. However, we also blended it with solid self-paced content within a learning platform. That platform was Iqualify – thanks @openpolytechnic for sharing your platform.

We delivered a flipped classroom with a difference.  Today is the final day of our first cohorts of Zoom and Teams sessions. It’s been a real learning curve for all involved. Not to mention a sprint for the Upskills team to pull together.  However, through the process, we have connected and learned loads together about leadership in a time of huge change.

Free online learning

We opened it up for free during Level 4 lockdown. It was part of what offered to businesses around Aotearoa who had staff based at home. These businesses were looking to develop the skills of their workforce and create a focus for staff throughout this unusual time.

Lockdown leadership learnersParticipants achieved the Level 3 New Zealand Certificate in Business (Team Leadership). So their learning is formally recognised on the NZQA framework.  Thanks to our ITO partner, Competenz, for the awhi along the way.  Most of all a huge shout out to our participants who made it all happen.

What the leaners are saying

Here are a few comments from our participants about what it was like inside Lockdown Leadership:

“I feel like I am already set in my ways, however from doing this course, I can see I can do what my leader did for me. That is believe in me. I can believe in my staff where I can.”

“This is a good chance for me to grow as a leader and I have thoroughly enjoyed Te Whāre Tapa Wha as a model.”

“I really like the self awareness, the more I know myself, the better I can communicate with my team.”

“This has helped me to see I connect well with my staff during change.”

“It’s a good platform and I’m enjoying online learning.  I’m learning to use technology a bit more.”

“I’m learning to think outside the square and approach things a bit differently.”

“I will definitely adopt the GROW model with my team”

Ngā mihi ki a tātou! We look forward to seeing you in the next cohort of Level 3 Leadership.
