Building confidence and communication

When Jenkins Freshpac Systems approached us to put together a workplace literacy and numeracy programme for their staff at the Tauranga based operation, they wanted to build the confidence and communication of their production and warehousing staff.

Jenkins provides packaging solutions for Aotearoa’s fresh produce industry. Think little stickers on your fruit, eco-friendly blueberry punnets and other types of eco-friendly packaging.

The Jenkins literacy and numeracy programme is called Equip, Evolve, Empower and it definitely lived up to its name.

Here’s what the Jenkins’ crew had to say about the experience:

“Hated school so didn’t really listen much, but these sessions have been cool and I have learnt heaps.”

“Wow, I never really understood what the cost was when a mistake is made. Now I get it.”

“Listening to people is really hard sometimes, but really important.”

“I never liked learning maths and stuff, but Chris made it fun, and now I can go and make me a budget!”

“Now I know when I talk to some people they don’t understand me. I needed to just say it differently.”

“Thanks, Jenkins for helping me learn a bit more about myself and what makes me tick.”

The programme has built connections and understanding between different business units. Operations Manager, John Lowther, says there has been a shift in the team’s awareness.

“The biggest change in the staff would be the understanding that we are all different and different types of communication are required.”

John also notes that staff are now able to acknowledge different personality types and to let others voice their opinions without fear of an argument developing.  All great outcomes for a programme delivered in the middle of changing alert levels and Covid uncertainty.

Congratulations to the Jenkins Freshpac Systems whānau. We can’t wait to get together to celebrate properly once alert levels allow.
