When learning opens you up to new perspectives and helps you see others’ points of view, it has a significant and lasting impact. That’s exactly what happened when Dad’s Pies engaged with a workplace literacy and numeracy upskilling project for their Silverdale based operation.
For participant Jamie Lee, there were several key learning takeaways,
“To see the impact of waste and be able to identify it and go in deep to solve the problems. In the class, we could bounce ideas and see what the point of view was from other departments. Really helpful,” she says.
Another participant, Shelly, agrees,
“It’s been insightful into the next level of the manufacturing process, we see what management see now.”

The Dad’s Pies programme (called ‘Recipe for Success’ after one of the company’s core values) is a mix of courses including core foundation skills, leadership and competitive systems manufacturing, with participants entering where they are at and levelling up as required, with support from Competenz to complete NZQA qualifications.

With plans to grow Recipe for Success and offer a Level 2 Certificate in Food and Beverage Processing, the career pathway for staff is both visible and achievable.

This has been the vision of Operations Manager Aaron de Jonge and the Leadership team.

“It’s all about collaboration, that’s what has made this programme a success…it’s important to stop and take stock of what’s been achieved – it’s a whole team effort.”
Congratulations to the team at Dad’s Pies on creating a real training recipe of success!
