Upskills Directors, Sarah Balfour and Holly Patterson, had a brief visit to the Capital in late July. They met with the CEO of the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC), Tim Fowler. The Workplace Literacy Fund has been so successfully subscribed in 2019 that demand now outstrips supply. Holly and Sarah talked about the positive impact workplace literacy and numeracy funding has on New Zealand businesses. They also voiced their hopes to see the TEC reallocating more funding into the 2019 calendar year and rightsizing the fund into 2020 and beyond.
Upskills’ message to Tim was clear:
The Workplace Literacy Fund represents one of the only funding streams that employers have to lift the communication skills of their operational workforce. It enables employers to grow a pipeline of talent in a tight labour market. Employers require certainty in funding to continue to deliver quality and innovative programmes.
Finally, if you are considering utilising the fund in 2020, we are working with clients now to ringfence these places in upcoming panel processes so please get in touch with us to make a plan.
